Who we are

The Institute of HIV Research and Innovation (IHRI) is a nonprofit organization, based in Bangkok, Thailand, dedicated to HIV and health research, healthcare services, and human rights advocacy. Our work focuses on expanding healthcare access for key populations through innovative research, community-led services, and policy advocacy.

Right now, IHRI is facing a major funding loss that threatens our ability to continue this vital work.

We believe that community leadership is the key to equitable access to healthcare. Through training and technical assistance, we empower community health workers to provide HIV testing, prevention, and gender-affirming care. Each year, the community-led health clinics:

  • Provide nearly 200,000 HIV tests
  • Offer 15,000+ people PrEP for HIV prevention
  • Support 10,000+ people in gender-affirming services

Beyond service delivery, IHRI has been a driving force in making HIV prevention, self-testing, and gender-affirming care accessible through Thailand’s universal health coverage. We continue to push for sustainable domestic funding for community-led health services—ensuring long-term access to care.

But without additional funding, these essential programs may need to be scaled back or even discontinued.
