5 days per week from 9:00 to 17:00 or 11.00 to 19.00. Applicants will be required to work on Saturdays (2-3 times per month)
The Care and Counseling Officer (Trans Health Stream) will provide HIV counseling, testing, treatment and linkage to care for transgender clients and their partners at the Tangerine Clinic. The Care and Counseling Officer will also play an important role in providing psychosocial support and facilitating access to safe gender-affirmative hormone treatment and other transgender-specific healthcare services. Moreover, the Care and Counseling Officer will provide services for other emerging work areas prioritized by IHRI such as HIV/AIDS, harm reduction and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). In addition, The Care and Counseling Officer will assist with research around participant recruitment, screening, enrollment and follow-up as assigned.
1. Provides HIV counseling and healthcare services to transgender clients and their partners at Tangerine Community Health Center
2. Conduct client intake, risk assessment and document all services tailored to individual clients’ health needs
3. Participate in online and offline promotion activities and events and provide accurate information and understanding of HIV prevention, care and treatment, and other transgender-related health
4. Perform administrative duties, including filing, recording results, management of clinic supplies and office equipment
5. Respond to online clients on all clinic online platform in a timely manner with accurate information as well as deliver the lab results to clients who request online results.
6. Inform follow-up management.
7. Inform appointment notification.
8. Assist with site preparation, participant recruitment, screening, enrollment and follow-ups for assigned research studies
9. Conduct data entry for all clients to the database system as required by the clinic and IHRI.
10. Perform other tasks as assigned.
1. Bachelor degree in social work, psychology or a related field, or equivalent minimum 2-3 years of experience in HIV and AIDS
2. Case management and counseling experience preferred
3. Must be computer literate
4. Must possess knowledge of HIV transmission and issues related to risk behavior including sexual behaviors
5. Must be sensitive, friendly, and have the people skills to work with transgender clients and their partners, including those who are sex workers, youth, substance users, low-income individuals
6. Ability to provide gender-affirming hormone therapy and trans health-related counseling appropriate to client needs.
6. Ability to perform basic screening and appropriate referral.
7. Ability to provide HIV counseling appropriate to client needs.
8. Make appropriate decisions in the provision of pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP and PEP)
9. Support clients to accept and positively cope with an HIV diagnosis and its psychosocial and emotional consequences.
10. Ability to provide basic harm reduction and substance use-related counseling.
11. Ability to provide basic women’s health counseling including safe medical abortion and contraceptive use.
12. Ability to provide basic mental health counseling.
13. Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team for both clinical service and research initiative.
